Benefits of Lake Tuscaloosa to Alabama Residents

Tuscaloosa may be only the fifth biggest city in Alabama, but don't let it's size fool you. As the home of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa serves as the center of activity for the industry, healthcare, commerce, and education in the western section of the state.

Tuscaloosa is also known as a great recreational city. Lake Tuscaloosa is a 5,855 acre reservoir lake created by damming off the North River in'70. It was created as a means of providing water for the residents and the industry in an around Tuscaloosa.

Before the creation of the new reservoir, the region used Lake Nicol and Harris Lake as the regions water source for both residential and industrial purposes. Presently, Harris Lake only serves industrial needs and Lake Nicol is used primarily as a backup water supply.

Lake Tuscaloosa serves as a source for recreation to locals and visitors. The lake is used for boating, fishing, and water sports. These activities have led to the construction of lake homes and communities to provide seasonal and primary homes.

Anglers enjoy fishing for Alabama spotted bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and white crappie in the Black Warrior River basin. The lake has 177 miles of shoreline that meanders through the natural terrain.

The popularity of the lake has led to the development of a private community called Legacy Point. The community is 55 acres in size and offers homes with stone and cedar shake exteriors in 6 different 3 and 4 bedroom layouts. The homes have large porches and decks that make for great areas to relax and look out over the water. Homes are from 1,800 to 3,600 sq ft in size.

Final thoughts

The community only has 55 home sites and once they have been sold, they will only be available through the resale market. All residents of the community have a boat slips to store their boat.
